“I was protecting your brother.”
“You threatened my wife to cover it.”
Gloria pointed at me.
“She has poisoned you against us.
Look at her standing there with her files and her secret calls.
She planned this.”
“I documented it,” I said.
“You planned it.”
Marcus’s composure snapped.
He grabbed the corner of the folder.
Daniel caught his wrist before he could pull it away.
Neither man struck the other.
Daniel simply held him still and said, very quietly, “Let go.”
Marcus did.
The room went silent except for Tessa’s uneven breathing.
I removed the certified copy of my deed and laid it on the table.
“This is the house you planned to refinance.”
Marcus stared at it.
“So?”
“Daniel does not own it.
He never has.”
Gloria blinked.
“You’re married.
That makes it his.”
“No.
I purchased it before the marriage.
The title remains solely in my name, and we signed an agreement preserving that ownership.”
Marcus snatched the transfer papers he had brought and scanned the first page.
His plan depended on Daniel holding an interest in the property.
He had assumed a husband’s name belonged automatically on his wife’s home and never bothered to confirm it.
“You knew,” he said.
“I knew you were threatening me over an asset you could not reach.”
His eyes narrowed.
“Then why let us talk?”
I took my phone from my pocket.
A red indicator glowed on the screen.
“To establish intent.”
Tessa went pale.
Gloria moved toward me.
“You recorded a private family conversation?”
“You entered my home without permission, took my property, assaulted me, presented forged transfer papers, and threatened my husband’s career unless I surrendered my house.”
Marcus looked at Daniel.
“She’s bluffing.”
I played five seconds of the recording.
His own voice filled the room: “Tomorrow morning, you sign the house over.
Then I refinance it, clear what I owe.”
I stopped the audio.
“The full recording has already been backed up.”
Marcus lunged for the phone.
Daniel blocked him again, forcing him back without throwing a punch.
“Do that once more,” Daniel warned, “and you will make this worse.”
“Worse?” Marcus shouted.
“Do you understand what happens if those lenders don’t get paid? They’ll come after all of us.”
His words hung in the room.
He had just confirmed the debt and motive on the recording.
Tessa turned on him.
